About GST Calculator

The GST Calculator handles India's Goods and Services Tax in both directions: add GST on top of a base price, or work backwards from a GST-inclusive total to find out how much tax is baked in. Freelancers and small businesses use it to quote GST-inclusive prices to clients, shop owners use it to check a supplier's invoice, and shoppers use it to verify that a receipt's tax line adds up. Every official GST slab — 0%, 0.25%, 3%, 5%, 12%, 18% and 28% — is available from the rate dropdown, or you can type a custom rate.

Switch between "Add GST" mode, which treats your entered amount as the pre-tax base and adds tax on top, and "Remove GST" mode, which treats the entered amount as already including tax and extracts the base price and tax component from it. The two modes are mathematically inverse operations, so entering the exclusive amount's output back into inclusive mode returns you to the original number — a useful way to sanity-check an invoice.

For intra-state supply, GST is split evenly into CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST), each exactly half the total GST amount — the calculator shows both alongside the combined figure so the breakdown matches what appears on a real Indian tax invoice. For inter-state supply, the equivalent single figure is usually shown as IGST, which equals the same total GST amount computed here.

All calculation happens instantly in your browser as you type — nothing about the amount, rate or your business is sent anywhere. This is a calculation aid, not tax or accounting software, and doesn't account for special exemptions, composition scheme rates or amendments to slab rates; always confirm figures against current government notifications for compliance purposes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between GST-inclusive and GST-exclusive amounts?

A GST-exclusive amount is the price before tax is added; a GST-inclusive amount already has GST baked in. Use "Add GST" for the first case and "Remove GST" for the second.

Why are CGST and SGST always equal?

For intra-state (within the same state) supply, the total GST is split 50/50 between the central and state governments. Inter-state supply instead charges the full amount as a single IGST.

What is the GST on ₹1,000 at 18%?

Adding 18% GST to ₹1,000 gives ₹180 in tax (₹90 CGST + ₹90 SGST) for a total of ₹1,180.
