Social Media Character Counter

The Social Media Character Counter checks a single piece of text against nine platform limits at once — X/Twitter, Instagram caption and bio, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube title and description, TikTok caption, and SEO meta description — so a caption written once can be checked for every place it'll be posted without retyping it into separate counters. It's the character counter for social media that also answers the two questions people search for most: the current twitter character count limit and the instagram caption limit, with every platform checked side by side.

It's used when repurposing the same announcement across multiple platforms and needing to know which ones it fits without editing, when writing a YouTube title and wanting to stay comfortably under the 100-character cutoff where YouTube starts truncating it in search and suggested-video listings, and when drafting a Facebook post and wanting to know it fits before the platform's roughly 477-character 'See More' truncation point, beyond which most readers never expand a post. Each platform's progress bar fills and turns red the moment the text crosses that platform's limit, so it's immediately clear at a glance which platforms a given draft already fits and which need trimming.

Counting is code-point aware, so an emoji or accented character counts as one character rather than being split into multiple UTF-16 code units — matching how these platforms actually count. X/Twitter gets special handling: any http(s) URL in the text is counted as a flat 23 characters regardless of its real length, matching Twitter's t.co link-shortening behavior, since a long URL wouldn't otherwise reflect what actually counts against the 280-character limit. All counting happens locally and updates as you type.
