Webcam Test

The Webcam Test turns on your camera right in the browser and shows a live preview along with its actual resolution, frame rate, aspect ratio and facing direction — everything you need to confirm a webcam is working before a video call, stream or recording. It's the fastest way to test my camera online: click Start, grant camera permission, and the live feed appears immediately with the technical details updating in real time below it. Use it to check webcam health before an interview, or as a camera resolution test to confirm what your sensor is actually delivering.

Beyond just confirming the camera turns on, it's genuinely useful for diagnosing problems: a webcam that's stuck at a low resolution or frame rate, delivering the wrong aspect ratio for a specific streaming setup, or simply not being detected at all all show up clearly in the stats panel rather than being guesses. If your device has more than one camera — a laptop's built-in camera plus an external USB webcam, for example — a dropdown lets you switch between them and see each one's live stats separately.

It also includes a one-click snapshot feature: capture the current frame as a PNG image and download it instantly, useful for checking framing, lighting or focus before a call without needing to open a separate camera app. This is the same technique used to verify a webcam setup before an important video interview, live stream or recorded presentation, and it works identically across Windows, macOS, ChromeOS and Linux since it relies only on standard browser APIs.

As with every camera-facing tool on this site, the video feed is never uploaded or recorded anywhere by default — it exists only as a live preview in your browser, and the only thing that leaves your device is a snapshot you explicitly choose to download.
